Marine Corps Veteran Orlando Harris has a much brighter future because of Opportunity House.
Klover Custis, Dir of Supportive Services for Veteran Families at Opportunity House shares her passion for helping veterans and Marine Corps Veteran Orlando Harris is grateful for the assistance he received from Opportunity House.
Klover and her team of case managers in Case managers in Berks Lancaster & Schuylkill Counties work diligently on outreach. They seek out veterans who are either homeless or in danger of becoming homeless in order to get them in stable housing or keep them in their current housing. Clover Custis says “We believe no veteran or their families should ever be homeless”.
Orlando Harris sports a big smile when he talks about the ways he benefited from the program. Upon returning to Reading Orlando didn’t have a place to go. He says the Opportunity House staff helped me get an apartment, a bed and furnishings. Orlando was a resident at the YMCA for a little bit. He says, “They came in to the YMCA and started doing a program. They reached out to me and did the paperwork. I was skeptical but within a couple weeks they helped me find a place to live”.
