JD Turner envisioned it over 5 years ago and now a Skate Park on Riverfront Drive is becoming a reality
Determination and persistence is how JD Turner won over City Hall! He shares his journey from an archeological dig near I95 in Philadelphia to owning a Skate Shop in West Reading to seeing a leading the push for a skate park in downtown Reading.
His passion and tenacity led to the formation of a local grassroots Reading Skatepark Association. This group has been lobbying to build a skate park on a grand scale. Build it and they will come! The proposed 20 to 30,000 square foot world-class concrete facility will be designed for skateboards, bikes, inline skates and scooters. JD Turner captured the imagination of Mayor Wally Scott and Adam Mukerji the Executive Director of the Reading Redevelopment Authority.
The vision is to build a safe, free, and easily accessible concrete park for youth and millennials in the community to have fun. Located next to the RACC campus and behind Penske the proposed skate park will be easily accessible from the Riverfront Trail which connects the city’s park system. The idea has caught on and is supported by local politicians. With the support of local businesses there could be a ‘groundbreaking’ in the not too distant future! JD Turner owns Holistic Skate Shop in West Reading, PA. You can get more information there or a http://readingskateparkassociation.org
